“Twas the month before Advent, and all through the church,
All the members were stirring, as they set out to search.
The themes were created by Denise with such care,
In hopes that they all had a few things to spare.
The bags were all nestled all snug on the floor,
While vigil was kept to keep us from the door.
As I with my iPad, and Debi with her hymnal,
Had just settled into the service dismissal.
When out in the foyer there arose such a clatter,
We both sprang from the chancel to see what was the matter!
And suddenly we remembered when we saw the creation,
This was the month of Clergy Appreciation!
The first Sunday was PINK and we were just tickled,
With plants and pens and even some pickles!
Not to be outdone the second Sunday was GOLD,
With sharpies and soaps and post it notes bold!
With nothing to LILAC the third Sunday was perfect,
We found Tostitos and feeders and bath bombs to select.
But then came with envy the reflection of GREEN,
Mint tea and gift boxes and blankets foreseen!
Now Kevin! Now Lisa! Now Steve and LouAnne!
On Debi! On Kim! On Kyle and Jann!
With us in your hands, you make West Point the balm,
Always thankful each one of us rolled into Yukon!
The above poem was created by Rev. Dr. Debi Powell-Maxwell and presented on 11/3/2024 by Rev. Jann Osborne and Rev. Dr. Debi Powell-Maxwell, in thanksgiving for the membership that is West Point Christian Church (Yukon, OK USA) for the weekly pastor appreciation gifts. (You can view those on our Facebook Page - scroll through the various Sundays in October 2024). It was created with apologies to Clement Clarke Moore who first published 'Twas the Night Before Christmas anonymously in 1823 but did not accept credit until 1837 because "he was a professor and the piece wasn't scholarly." (You can view the actual presentation on YouTube here. Scroll to 1:04:15).
With love from Rev. Jann Osborn and Rev. Dr. Debi Powell-Maxwell
